Celebrating 100 years of St. Luke’s — and the generations still to come
Over one hundred years ago, the devoted members of St. Luke’s dedicated a modest church in the heart of the Ballard neighborhood of Seattle. Through baptism and burial, revival and rupture, the Spirit of God has moved faithfully in this place — and the people of St. Luke’s have responded in love and service, generation after generation.
“Through it all, God has continued to be faithful and God’s people have responded in love and service, particularly to those on the margins.”
That faithfulness is visible today in the Edible Hope Kitchen, now 40 years strong in feeding our vulnerable neighbors. It is visible in St. Luke’s Apartments, whose grand opening this April marked the first affordable family housing built in Ballard in over three decades — built on the prayers and generosity of generations who secured this land for transitional housing, community gardens, and student discernment programs.
Now we are preparing for the next 100 years. Plans are underway for additional housing and a new worship and service space on the same ground where we have been planted for over a century — a building with a dedicated chapel, multi-use sanctuary, and classrooms for both affordable childcare and congregation programs. We will be moving off-site for two years during construction.
Before we break ground, we invite you to pause, remember, and give thanks.
