We are collecting warm clothes at St. Luke’s for our neighbors
With the homelessness crisis, much (needed) time and money are devoted to ensuring no one in our neighborhood goes hungry. Edible Hope is a part of this safety net, as is the Ballard Food Bank, the Ballard Community Dinner, and other service providers. Food is relatively well covered. What is not covered, particularly as the days get colder and wetter, is clothing.
Since the closing of the Bridge Care Center, there has been no central and reliable distribution point for clothing in Ballard. A group of Ballard churches, of which St. Luke’s is a part, is well aware of this need and, for the month of November, will be collecting warm clothes (jackets, pants, sweaters, gloves, hats, blankets, etc.). We have identified storage locations for the clothing collected and they will be distributed regularly at the Ballard Community Dinner on Wednesday nights. A month-long clothing drive is not the ultimate, sustainable solution … but it’s a place to start.
We will have a bin in the narthex at St. Luke’s for you to drop off clothing for our neighbors. It could be something from your closet you are no longer wearing but is in good shape, new clothing you purchase as a way of sharing with our neighbors, or a shopping spree with a purpose at Goodwill.
Will you please consider caring for our neighbors with us? There is a real need and we can play a part in meeting it.
