St. Luke’s Episcopal Church

Baptism & Confirmation

At St. Luke’s, we recognize that faith is a journey rather than a destination. Important milestones along that journey include baptism, confirmation, and reception. Many at St. Luke’s are baptized or confirmed following our annual small group journey of faith exploration we call a Spiritual Pilgrimage.

Baptism

Baptism is the sacrament in which we are, named as God’s beloved; welcomed into God’s family, the Church; and receive the promise that nothing can separate us from the love of God. In the Episcopal Church, people of all ages can be baptized. We celebrate baptisms several times throughout the year, typically on major liturgical days.

Confirmation

Confirmation is important milestone for those who have been baptized. Many view their confirmation as a rite of passage that strengthens and deepens their faith and connection with the Church. While priests can baptize, only bishops can confirm those taking this step of faith. Being confirmed by a bishop affirms that, as Christians, we are part of a community of faith across time and distance.

Reception

Those who have been baptized or confirmed in other Christian traditions and wish to formally join the Episcopal Church affirm their faith and through Reception. Like Confirmation, Reception is administered by a bishop to signify our connection to the broader church community.
