St. Luke’s Episcopal Church

Edible Hope

In 1986, a group of St. Luke’s women saw a need for fishermen and unhoused neighbors in Ballard to have access to a reliable, nutritious meal. They took it upon themselves to begin meeting that need by cooking and serving meals out of the St. Luke’s basement. This became known as the Edible Hope Kitchen – a place where people are fed in body, mind, and spirit.

Edible Hope is an indispensable part of our identity at St. Luke’s. We serve breakfast along with a substantial entree every weekday morning of the year – including holidays. It is not only a place of nourishment for many of our neighbors, but also a place of safety and community in a hectic world.

With our property redevelopment, Edible Hope remains a ministry of St. Luke’s but has moved off-site. We are currently operating out of St. Paul’s United Church of Christ near Ballard High School on NW 65th St.

Edible Hope relies entirely on volunteers – many of whom are members of St. Luke’s.
